TRAVEL October 12 2015 Comment

Last week I found myself lucky enough to go on a short trip to Sicily. This trip was exactly what I needed now that the weather has turned quite cold in Holland and the leafs have started to change color :). In October, the average temperature in The Netherlands is 10 degrees celsius and in Sicily it’s 26! Yay!

Sicily is the biggest island in the Mediterranean and from Amsterdam you can get a direct flight to Catania. It’s the perfect island to enjoy plenty of sun and beaches but you can also find the Etna volcano here, the biggest active volcano in Europe. And did you know that many scenes from the Godfather trilogy were filmed in Sicily?!

I stayed in to the city Syracuse and what I enjoyed most of this picturesque town were the delicious seafood platters (although the Pasta Alla Siracusa is also to die for!). But of course Sicily has more to offer than just great food. You can visit Roman amphitheaters, a valley of temples and lot’s of fascinating cities. You can take strolls through charming villages and vineyards everywhere!

During my Sicily getaway I stayed at Grand Hotel Minareto, a seaside luxury resort located right in front of the island of Ortigia. This hotel has cottages that are scattered around the Mediterranean grounds. Here you can relax at the private beach, beside the pool, in one of the jacuzzis or simply enjoy a drink at the bar.

Not a bad start of autumn season don’t you think ;)?
